From an Early age Daphne loved to draw and paint, especially people and animals.
Growing up on a sheep station in Western Queensland she became involved with horses of her own, riding them in local shows and mustering around the property.
It wasn’t until much later in life she began to take up art seriously when she was accepted at the Art Students League in New York where she was introduced to life drawing and oil painting under the guidance of David Leffel and (the late) Ray Goodbred.
On returning to Australia, there was a lapse of several years, before Daphne took to painting again, on a regular basis. Now settled on the Gold Coast close to family and friends she became a member of The Royal Queensland Art Society at Broadbeach. There under the tutelage of (the late) Peter Abraham, Daphne hasn’t stopped painting and goes regularly to Life Drawing.
Being familiar with horses – their anatomy, characteristics and the way they move, it has become her prime subject – painting for pleasure – and also successful outcomes at shows and sales.
Daphne is also a member of the pastel society of Australia. Pastel is her favourite medium, and also using mixed media with oil or acrylics.
