ABOUT ROSEMARY UPTON
From a family of artists, I have been painting and drawing for as long as I can remember.
As a child I was selected on scholarship to be tutored by Vida Lahey at the old Qld Museum and Art Gallery, Bowen Hills Brisbane and continued my studies at the Brisbane Art College.
My career began as a cadet artist for the Courier Mail newspaper in Brisbane, followed by the Sydney Morning Herald, where my illustrations were published regularly for over a decade.
I was then employed full time as a short story illustrator for The Sun Herald newspaper and Woman’s Day magazine. My fashion illustrations appeared in publications including Vogue, Women’s Day and Women’s Weekly.
I then branched into illustrating children’s books and short stories for various publishers including Jacaranda Press and regularly exhibited my paintings and drawings in group shows and regional galleries.
I have accepted many commissions to undertake portraiture work.
The highlight of my early career was the two Exhibitions entitled ‘Three Generations ‘ which included my mother, my daughter and myself held at the Royal Qld Art Society Brisbane. These Exhibitions received good reviews and acclaim.
I now reside in the Tweed River area, and have been selected to hang in The Tweed River Gallery and The Gold Coast Arts Centre.
I have held successful workshops for both children and adults.
Over the years I have won various prizes and awards for my paintings and drawings and my work is included in many private collections.
I am passionate about colour in my paintings but have recently rediscovered my love of drawing.
I continue to work from my home studio overlooking the treetops and Mount Warning and am currently working towards another solo exhibition.
