ART BIOGRAPHY
Beginning of Professional Career
Real interest in techniques and effects began at the age of 15 during work experience as a scenic artist for an international company (Cardiff Theatrical Services) that produced scenery for well-renowned theatrical companies such as Welsh National Opera, The New York Met, San Francisco Ballet, Royal Opera House – the highlight working on a project by David Hockney. Invited back as a professional part-time scenic artist whilst completing her degree in London.
Indo-Welsh artist tackling the universe from above and below – I experiment with paint to express the colours and movements inspired by the photography of NASA and the cinematography of BBC series Blue Planet. I attempt to not only highlight the beauty of the planet but to try and capsulate some issues such as the melting of glaciers and harsh habitats.
In my studio I physically move around the canvas to manipulate and apply the paints from different angles. The liberation and technique of such free-flowing work drives me to push the boundaries of what can be achieved, creating a never-ending myriad of movement, effects and finishes reflecting phenomena and the dramatic images of landscapes and the solar system.
The world of visual effects and large scale art was opened up to me from a young age when I experienced working on scenic art for Welsh National Opera. Probably the most influential environment for me before later attending The Courtauld Institute of Art to study Conservation of Frescoes and the science behind the artists’ materials.
My art invites the viewer to take a look up close and explore the art in detail before enjoying the overall energy.
