BACKGROUND
Art has always played a part in my life since early childhood; mostly drawing and doing work in pen and Ink

I never did much in the way of painting until my late 30’s, when I had the opportunity to learn oil painting at the Art Students League in New York. I was introduced to traditional portraiture, figurative work and still life and taught by some of America’s most notable artists, like Daniel Greene and David Leffel.

Then a gap of 20 years passed before I was able to focus more of my time to painting.  It wasn’t until 1999, 2 years after becoming a widow, that I came home to the Gold Coast and joined the Royal Qld Art Society at Broadbeach. I started off by going to life drawing once or twice a week. Then I began painting with (late) Peter Abraham for 2-3 years. I then started on my own, doing an occasional workshop that I found beneficial to my development as an artist.

INSPIRATION
The beauty, power and grace of the horse, portraiture, and the human figure motivate me to draw and paint. Lately, l’ve been looking at doing more in the way of landscapes as well.  Then there’s the enjoyment of being an R.Q.A.S. Member, conversing with other artists, stimulating one’s thoughts, sharing opinions and ideas.

STYLE
I have an illustrative, representational approach to drawing and painting. Although I have experimented with a more contemporary look, the traditional style still dominates my work.

WORKSPACE
I have a comfortable setup with table, easel and good natural lighting. I like to work in quiet surroundings or with classical music playing softly in the background.

EXHIBITIONS. COMPETITIONS. SALES
Over the years, I have had numerous successes at most shows that I’ve entered; from selected events on the Gold Coast, Toowoomba and Blackall to Melbourne and Sydney.  lt is always a thrill when a work is sold to its forever home.

MEDIUMS
Mostly pastel, acrylic and oil. Sanguine, bistre and charcoal for drawing.
